AN upcoming Wellington clothes swap event is offering locals the chance to renew their wardrobes and step away from fast fashion.
Set to take place at the end of the month on March 29, from 12.30pm, the first swap of the year will be found on the second floor of Bell Tower at Tonedale Mill, where attendees can recreate their wardrobe by donating used items, and take home some pre-loved pieces for themselves.
The quarterly sessions are run by the owners of the Italian deli Olive and Rosy in collaboration with Joanna from Slow and Circular and Pure Yoga Somerset, who connected over a mutual interest in “slow fashion”.
The hosts say they’re pleased with the local turn-out so far, developing a growing community of returning swappers and first timers.
Co-owner of Olive and Rosy, Rachael, said: “Feedback has been very positive with participants expressing how good it feels to see a new owner selecting their garments.
“Many appreciate being able to see where a piece of their clothing is going after they have finished with it and knowing it is going to be enjoyed again.
“We particularly love hearing about new connections being made as people share the stories of their pieces, such as a holiday or event they wore it to, as well as suggesting styling ideas.
“We can’t guarantee that everyone will find something right for them every time but our guests do seem to enjoy their time having a look.
“We'd love to see the swaps grow even further so that we can offer a greater variety of sizes and styles as well as carry out more upcycling of some of the garments to add back in to future swaps.”
The next clothes swap will take place on March 29 with further swaps planned for June 14, September 13 and November 22.
