THE Court Fields School Debate Club has recently demonstrated their prowess in public speaking and critical thinking by excelling in the Rotary Club Youth Speaks competitions held in Taunton and Wellington.

The first competition took place at Queens School in Taunton, where the talented team of Caleb M, Gemma H, and Oscar G represented Court Fields School on Friday, January 17.

Their insightful discussion on the impact of AI on our future captivated the audience. Among the highlights of the evening was Gemma H's exceptional proposal, which earned her the prestigious Best Speaker of the Evening award.

A week later, on January 24, the debate club continued to shine at the Rotary Youth Speaks Senior Competition held at Wellington School. The team, consisting of Olivia D, Oliver B, and Milly H, delivered an impressive debate on the necessity of nuclear weapons as a deterrent. Their passionate and confident performance garnered high praise from the judges.

In a delightful twist, both Milly H and Olivia D were jointly awarded the Best Speaker prize for their outstanding speeches and the team going through to the next round of the competition at Taunton School.
