A WELLINGTON school has hosted a successful community forum to improve local support measures.

A total of 50 members of the community joined students and staff for a breakfast meeting on Monday, January 20, to discuss prospective plans to improve support for local children and families in their ‘cradle to career’ mission.

Guests included representatives from the council, health sector, social services, education sector, youth services, businesses, the Rotary Club, and the voluntary sector, all working together to improve outcomes for families in and around Wellington.

A small group of Year 10 students from the Youth Independent Advisory Group also contributed their ideas, having been involved in a pilot project for the West Somerset Police Independent Advisory Group (IAG).

Church lead Bob House, of Wellington One Team, commented: “The community forum breakfast meeting held at Court Fields School on Monday was inspirational and strategic with a large range of agencies in attendance.

“This is an exciting group meeting progressively to enhance the multi-agency working to bring real-time help and support for children and families from ‘cradle to career’.

“One of the highlights was a group of five Year 10 students presenting their involvement in a pilot project for the West Somerset Police IAG representing Young People’s views on local issues from their perspective to our Police in Wellington and surrounds.

Polly Matthews, Headteacher at Court Fields School, thanked all those that attended.

She said: "It underlines the fantastic community we have in Wellington, that our community breakfast was not only so well attended, but that the strength of feeling to improve outcomes for children and families, and the quality of the conversations to make that happen was just outstanding.

“Our work together will impact across all aspects of our town and I am thrilled to be a part of what I know will really make a difference for our community."
