THE M5 between Taunton and Wellington was closed on Sunday, April 6 due to welfare concerns, say police.

From 11am on Sunday morning, National Highways reported that the M5 was closed between junctions 25 (Taunton) and 26 (Wellington).

Delays reportedly extended to Creech Heathfield and West Buckland, Taunton town-centre, as well as surrounding roads and the A38 past Rumwell.

The motorway was reopened at around 12.15pm and by 3.30pm all traffic had cleared.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “This was a concern for welfare incident which was safely resolved just after midday yesterday (6 April) with the M5 reopened.”
