A WELLINGTON couple have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a trip to Sidmouth, a walk along the beach and a fish and chip lunch.
Geoffrey Smith and Joyce Smith (nee Cornwell) married in Chigwell in Essex in 1962 but have spent all of their married life in Wellington and the surrounding area, initially in Westford from 1962 to 1971 and at The Gables in Wellington ever since.
Geoffrey was a manager at Price Brothers, which became Relyon, from 1955 until 1995.
Joyce worked mainly for Somerset Care and for the NHS Alzheimer’s Day Centre, in Wellington Baptist church.
They have two daughters, Mandy, born in 1963, and Joanne, born in 1965. They also have grandchildren Rebecca, Rachael, Liam, Bianca, Nicole and Nathan, and great-grandchildren Amelia, Rufus, Isabell, Safiyah and Olivia, with two more on the way.
The Queen sent the couple a personal card offering them her congratulations and best wishes.
