WELLINGTON RFC’s U15s made the trip to Bridport on Sunday to play their first game against the Dorset outfit.
This was always going to be a difficult task with Wellington's bare 15 (without their seven Bristol Bears players) taking on a strong Bridport team who had ten Bath DPP players.
Bridport started strongly and Wellington struggled to contain their strong runners and missed a few tackles. This was hardly surprising with players having to play out of position but they were not overwhelmed. In the first half Bridport scored six converted tries to lead 42 - 0 at the break.
The Welly boys could easily have let their heads drop at this point but they fought hard to keep in the game. Their scrum and lineout was as solid as it has been all season and they defended their line with everything they had forcing Bridport to drop two balls over the line. Captain George Williams had a good game at number 8 as did Will Barnes and Owen Parker on the flanks.
Wellington did concede two more tries but then scored one through fly half CJ who had been drafted in from the U14s. It ended 52-5 to Bridport but the Wellington boys should be proud of how they played.
