WELLINGTON Tennis Club has began its match season with the A team in Division 2 and both B and C teams playing in Division 4 of the West Somerset Mixed Tennis League.

Both of the B teams matches have been rained off but C team currently lead Division 4 having lost one and won. Their fixture against Elms away on their grass courts was a very close match with 3 10 points tie-breaks played. Wellington won 8-4 which was an excellent result considering it was on grass.

Meanwhile, the A team had their first match at home against Bridgwater B. James Cross and Elizabeth Deem won their rubber 6-0, 6-3. Sue Rackley and Phil Cookson had a much longer rubber but lost 5-7,4-6. So at half time, Wellington were ahead in games.

Next, Sue and Elizabeth won 6-0, 6-3 so it was all down to Wellington men to win a set. In a fine match - and it was also Phil and James' first match as a pairing - Bridgwater triumphed 6-4, 7-5.

So with four sets apiece, the games are counted and Wellington won nine more games so took the extra point winning 5-4.
