WELLINGTON 3rd XI went down to a six-wicket home defeat against Middlezoy 2nd XI in a low-scoring game in Division Six West of the Somerset Cricket League.
Wellington, who were put into bat, struggled throughout their innings with only Macauley Campbell (20) and Trevor Brooks (15) managing to make any runs. In fact, nine batters failed to get into double figures.
Greg Turner proved almost unplayable, taking 6-9 in nine overs while Ed Peacock took 2-41 in eight overs.
Middlezoy did not have it all their own way when they batted. At one stage they were 32-4. However, John Hoare (22) and Ed Peacock (25 not out) steered them to victory - and a haul of 35 points. Wellington received seven points. George Davies was Middlezoy's most successful bowler with 3-17 in five overs.
Star performers of the day were Taunton Indian who piled up 402-4 in their 40 overs against Weston with A Paul hitting 151 and S Mohanan 82.
Only one of Weston's players managed double figures as the home side were shot out for 65 in ten overs. S Gosayill Bhaskaran took 5-15, T Thomas 2-14 and V Vijaya Kumar 2-8.
Wellington 3rd XI are seventh in the table, one place off the drop zone.
