WELLINGTON lst XV kick off their 150th year anniversary season with a derby game at home to Cullompton in Regional Two South West on Saturday, September 7.
Wellington’s head coach Graham Dawe, who begins his sixth season in charge, said: “It’s a great fixture to have to start the season. It should inspire the players to turn up for training early and train hard. I’m hoping training will start in the first week in July.
“We’re all looking forward to being part of the club’s anniversary celebrations. It is going to be a big season for the club." Wellington follow this opening fixture with an away match at Newton Abbot and entertain Wadebridge Camels the following Saturday. Their last match in September is away to Okehampton.
They also have another derby game in mid-November against promoted Tiverton. Wellington's first team will again be captained by Danny Lee.
The Wellington club are also considering a tour abroad at the end of next season following the success of their short three-day stay at Newcastle at the end of last season.
The club took a party of 35 players, officials and members up North where they were able to watch Newcastle's home game against Bath. While at Newcastle,, Wellington managed to play a game against Seyhill,
The 2nd XV are away to Hornets 3rds in their opening match in Counties Three Somerset South and are home to Crewkerne the following weekend.
