Monday saw the first round of the 2024/25 Somerset squash league for the Wellington Squash and Racketball Club teams.
The first team were at home against Wyvern 4 and secured a win. Natalie Lawrence at 1 lost 11/15, 7/15, 12/15, Barry Bartram at 2 won 15/9, 15/17, 15/11, 15/11, Andrew Carpenter at 3 lost 15/13, 13/15, 7/15, 9/15, Mike Broom at 4 won 3/15, 15/12, 15/13, 8/15, 15/12, Tom Handy at 5 won 15/6, 15/9, 15/10. The final result was Wellington 13 Wyvern 9.
The second team went to Weston-super- Mare to play Weston String Strokers. They came away with a sound drubbing. David Thorne at 1 lost 3/15, 4/15, 7/15, Ed Barrett at 2 lost 10-15, 16/18, 9/15, Simon Butters at 3 lost 11/15, 3/15, 6/15, Dan Keywood at 4 lost 6/15, 7/15, 8/15, Guy Cox at 5 lost 2/15, 6/15, 10/15. The final result was Weston 18 Wellington 0.
Next week the second team is away against Street 2 and the first team has a week off. Frst team player James Wilkie has a broken toe.
