WELLINGTON suffered a surprise 3-1 home defeat against Cheddar in the Jewson Western League’s Les Phillips Cup on Wednesday night.
On a damp evening with the game having survived a mid-day pitch inspection, Jamie Moss put Cheddar ahead just before half time and Elliott Keen made it 2-0 in the 56th minute after Wellington missed a penalty.
Matt Crawley pulled a goal back for Wellington almost immediately but Cheddar scored a third goal through Moss in the 79th minute.
Meanwhile, Wellington will be back in action at the Playing Field on Saturday, weather permitting, when they play at home to bottom side Welton Rovers in the Premier Division of the Jewson League (3p.m.).
Wellington will be looking to complete the season’s double over Rovers, who have yet to pick up a point, after beating them 1-0 away last Saturday week.
Wellington Reserves play away to bottom side Lyme Regis in the Premier Division of the Devon and Exeter League on Saturday. Wellington are lying tenth.
Wellington A play away to North Petherton in the Premier Division of the Taunton Saturday League while Wellington Reds are without a game in the first division.
Wellington side Moortown also have a blank weekend in the first division of the Somerset Sunday League.
