WELLINGTON 3rd XI slumped to a nine-wicket away defeat against leaders Winscombe in Division Six West of the Somerset Cricket League.
It enabled Winscombe to stay 27 points clear of second-placed Wembdon while Wellington are in seventh spot, only one place above the relegation zone.
Wellington were bowled out for 119 in 34.3 overs with only Des Campbell looking confident at the crease, scoring 52, which included eight fours. Darren Harris was 17 not out, as the last five wickets tumbled for only 26 runs. Pier Langford finished with figures of 5-16 while Chloe Brown took 2-2 in one over.
Batting proved no problem for Winscombe who knocked off the runs in 17.5 overs with Cameron Lapes scoring 51, Rob Shephard 32 not out and David Bailey 21 not out. Connor Wickenden took 1-17.
Wembdon, in second place, kept up the pressure at the top with a 181-run maulng of visitors Shapwick and Polden.
Wembdon, put into bat, scored 308-1 with Keith Futcher hitting 109 and Mike Morrish 126 not out. Shapwick had no answer to the bowling of Gary Howes who took 4-16 and Harry James-Stone who snapped up 2-16.
Third placed Taunton Indian also won, beating Taunton Deane in a low scoring game.
