WELLINGTON Bowling Club has announced it is being sponsored by Sheppy's Cider for the next year.
Sheppy's is based between Wellington and Taunton and is a family run farm which has been producing award-winning ciders for more than 200 years.
The Wellington club plays bowls all the year round and is a thriving club on the bowls circuit.
The Executive Committee of the bowling club have particularly thanked Steve Lovell, functions co-ordinator, for arranging and setting up the sponsorship with Sheppy's.
The sponsorship is for a 12 month period and the bowls club will sell Sheppy's cider over the bar for members to enjoy.
The photograph shows bowlers from the Wellington teams who have recently been narrowly beaten by Bridgwater BC, 44 shots to 43.
Despite the narrow loss they were happy to gather under the Sheppy's banner to show their appreciation for the cider maker’s support.
Meanwhile, Wellington's Pumas welcomed Sidmouth Starfish to their ground in the Exeter over 60s Bowls League. While Wellington's Lions were away to North Tawton.
In the home game, Andy Pearce, Geoff Stamp and skip Tony Gibson started slowly against Sidmouth. They were two shots down after the first. Then they got themselves together and began to play bowls. They picked up several 3s and 4s and ended with a brilliant 7 shots in the last to carry them to a very comfortable win by 32 shots to 10.
Alan Every, Andrew Baird and skip Bill Warnett also started slowly and were 4-0 down after just two ends but they picked up the pace with three 4s and two 5s to win by a very big margin, 32 shots to Sidmouth's 7.The overall score was Wellington Pumas 64 – Sidmouth Starfish 17.
While the Pumas were strutting their stuff, Wellington's Lions were having some problems in their Over 60s match away to North Tawton.
Mike Copping, Pete Nichols and skip Mike Groves have not lost a game so far this season. Until now, that is.
It was a tight match on their rink though. They were ahead by one shot, 11 – 10 after 12 ends, but the Tawton trio picked up a 5 in the 15th which was enough to win the game Tawton 19, Wellington 14.
Julian Street, Graham Brown and Paul Kelly needed a good win if they were to save the match overall.
After ten ends the teams were level on 8 shots apiece, but Paul's threesome got down to some serious bowling and moved ahead to win it in style 21 – 14.
After a hard and very competitive match, Wellington were the victors overall by just two shots, 35 – 33.
So two very good games ended with Wellington's big cats winning both home and away.
