HERE'S a round-up of some of the top local football and rugby games on this weekend:
Football
The depleted Wellington side that suffered their second Premier Division of the Toolstation League defeat in five days on Wednesday night, losing 4-2 at Street, will look to get back to winning ways when they visit Torpoint on Saturday who are two points and a couple of places below them in the table.
For Wellington Reserves - who stretched their unbeaten run in Division One of the Devon and Exeter League to 12 games with a 1-1 draw against visitors Newton St Cyres on Wednesday night - up next is the visit of league leaders Winkleigh on Saturday (3pm), giving Welly the potential to close the gap at the top to a point but having played one more game than the pacesetters.
New league leaders Hemyock host Witheridge in Division Three on Saturday (3pm).
Wellington A, who drew 1-1 with title-chasing Redgate in the Premier Division of the Britannia Lanes Taunton Saturday League last time out, will look to create another upset when they host league leaders Wembdon on Saturday (2.30pm).
Wellington Ladies are home to Bath City Women in Division One of the Somerset Women’s League on Sunday (2pm).
Watchet Town face a tricky encounter when they travel to high flying Mendip Broadwalk in the Uhlsport Premier Division on Saturday.
It is tight towards the bottom of the table but Watchet have games in hand on a few of the other sides and could pull out of the relegation zone.
Minehead, who were beaten 6-3 by visitors Yatton & Cleeve United on Saturday, have added time to prepare for their next match when they head to Saltford on 25 March.
There is a full programme of games in the Taunton Saturday, Somerset Sunday and Taunton Youth Leagues.
Rugby
WELLINGTON head into their final match of the Regional Two South West season full of confidence after a well deserved 30-15 win and the double over Bridgwater & Albion.
Up next is the visit of Sidmouth on Saturday with fifth place up for grabs for Wellington, who have had some selection problems this season but have been a match for any team when they can field a full strength side.
Meanwhile Wellington 2nd XV play their penultimate game of the Counties Three Somerset South season at Huish Tigers before ending their campaign with a home tie against Castle Cary the following week.
Wiveliscombe host bottom-of-the table Falmouth for their final Counties One Western West game of the season whilst Wiveliscombe 2nd XV host North Petherton 2nd XV on Saturday.
Minehead head into the final league match of their Counties Two Somerset campaign in good spirits after a 13-10 win against third-placed Taunton on Saturday.
Up next for the Babas is another tough test, a trip to high flyers Imperial with head coach Jack Claydon looking to end a tough campaign, injuries wise, on a high.
Claydon said Imperial is a tough place to play rugby regardless of the time of year.
“They are a well organised side and they are performing well. It’s going to be a tough game but, nonetheless, one that we are looking forward to.”
