ROCKWELL Green Short-mat Bowls Club’s annual pairs competition has taken place with eight pairs competing in a round robin format.

Several of the games were very one sided, the worst being Bill and Lauraine going down 15-3 to favourites Mike and John.

Th first semi saw Martin and Reg against Bob and David which resulted in a rout for Bob and David G, losing 20-5.

The second semi saw favourites Mike and John pitted against Cass and Brian with all expecting a close game after they drew in the round robin But it was not be be. Cass and Brian opened up a four-shot lead early on and then played a very defensive game, not allowing Mike and John any leeway to get back into the game and held on to win 8-3.

After a short break the final between Martin & Reg against Cass and Brian got underway. This proved to be a one-sided affair with Martin and Reg playing exceptional bowls, winning by 19 shots to four. Unfortunately, Brian suffered from a bad back in the final.

Overall Martin and Reg were deserved winners, having played five and won five with a shot tally of 80 to 19 against.
