WELLINGTON'S Toolstation League match at Street on Wednesday night had to be abandoned after a serious injury to their striker Ryan Brereton, writes Barry Knott.

Brereton suffered a double fracture of the right leg in the first half - and the referee decided to call off a match which had already been postponed before.

The incident occurred in the 30th minute with Wellington losing 1-0 - to a goal which was scored only four minutes earlier.

The game will now have to be rearranged - causing a further headache for secretary Jane Brown who has had to deal with a number of postponements throughout the winter.

She said yesterday: "It has certainly been a difficult season with a number of fixtures having been called off because of the bad weather."

She joked: "I think this country needs to move South - to warmer weather.

“We have had so much rain - it is unbelievable. It doesn't stop."

Wellington play at home to Oldland Abbotonians in the premier division on Saturday (3p.m.) and is one of four matches faced by manager Richard Cherry's boys in the next ten days.
