AFTER the previous weekend’s high, it was back down to earth for the Welly Super 2s who lost 68-24 at home against North Petherton 2s in Counties Three Somerset South.
Straight from the kick off, Welly fumbled the ball allowing Petherton to eventually profit with a converted try within three minutes of kick off. Stung, the Wellington team went straight back at Petherton. From a penalty lineout, 10 yards from the Petherton line, the Welly pack drove towards the line and eventually Ben Jordan crashed over for an unconverted try.
It was all one way traffic after that, with Petherton scoring a number of converted tries. Until scrum half Ben Fowler, got on the score sheet just before half time and Jon long converting the try. Half time: 12-42.
The second half was more balanced, with the resilient Welly Super 2s digging deep. And scoring two converted tries, the first by Jack Dyer and the second a well worked line out move with Garryn Basson scoring near the posts. Both converted by Jon Long.
Petherton hit back and scored four more tries, converting three of them before the match ended in a decisive win for Pwrhweron.
This was a tough and fractious game at times, however, a fantastic effort by the youngest members of the team, Ben Fowler, Jon long and immense defence in mid filed by Aston Cottrell . Next up for Wellington is an away game against Tor.
*Wellington remain seventh in the division, with eight victories from 17 matches. They are seven points behind sixth-placed Hornets.
