WELLINGTON Rugby Club will end a packed season by making a four-day tour to Barcelona at the beginning of next month.
An official party of nearly 50 will be making the four-day trip, including 30 players. The highlight is a match against Barcelona University to be played on Saturday, May 3. Wellington ended last season with a tour to Newcastle.
Meanwhile, the club begin their 150th year celebrations with a gala dinner on Thursday, April 24, in a marquee attended by more than 350, with Mike Teague, Peter Winterbottom and Dean Richards being the main speakers.
The following day is a charity event at the Athletic Ground being organised by the club's physio Trish Acton.
It's Rugby Day on Saturday, April 26. The Vets are in action against a Select XV (11a.m.), the Vixens play Sherborne (1p.m.) while the firsts are playing Taunton Wanderers with a 3p.m. kick-off. The club's minis and juniors will be playing on the Sunday, April 27.
Wellington's secretary Ashley Colman has also announced that the club will be reforming its Colts team for the 2025-26 season, and arrangements are in hand to play the Sam Sherwin Memorial Match against Wellington School which was not played this season, but is normally an annual event at the Athletic Ground.
*Wellington Rugby Club will look back on a season in which their lst XV struggled at times, mainly because of injuries and players being unavailable, making it difficult to field a settled side.
When they did field a strong team they were a match for any side in Regional Two South West, proving this by beating high-flyers Crediton in their penultimate game of the season.
Two of their most influential players, skipper Danny Lee and vice captain George Hodgson, were among those players sidelined for long spells, with Lee eventually undergoing a successful neck operation.
