Meanwhile, Wellington lst XV have no match this weekend following their 45-22 home win over Teignmouth last Saturday which eased their relegation worries in Regional Two South West. They moved up a place to eighth although they have played one more match than the four teams below them - North Petherton, Truro, Teignmouth and Newton Abbot.

“To be fair to Teignmouth they put up a good fight,” said Wellington’s head coach Graham Dawe. “But the lads stuck to the task and scored three tries from 50 yards out right in front the crowd just after half-time, which is always nice. If I had to single out two players it would be Cam Venn and Ollie Price who skippered the side. But it was a fine, all-round team effort.

“This is a tough league especially when you see the likes of Teignmouth, who are a big club, down there."

Newton Abbot are home to Petherton on Saturday, January 25, while Teignmouth play at Okehampton who are lying fourth in the table. Other games in the division are Truro v Winscombe, Wadebridge Camels v Topsham.

Wellington return to action the following Saturday when they are away to 100 per centers Topsham. Dawe added: “The break will give us time to prepare for this match - it’s going to be tough one. But wouldn't it be nice to go there and win!

“Unfortunately, Danny Lee (skipper) will miss the game with a neck injury which is likely to keep him out until March. With George Hodgson also sidelined with a long-term knee injury, Price will again lead the side at Topsham. Hodgson was expecting to have a scan on his injured knee this week.

Wellington 2nd XV, lying seventh in Counties Three Somerset South, have a home game against Cheddar Valley on Saturday, January 25. Valley have lost all 15 of their matches this season (2.30).

Meanwhile Wiveliscombe lst XV, lying fifth in Counties One Western West, are away to Bude, who are in tenth spot with only three wins from 15 matches. Wiveliscombe 2nd XV are without a match.
