WELLINGTON Rugby Club have confirmed that ex-England international Graham Dawe will be continuing as head coach.
Dawe has been in charge for the past three seasons and in that time Wellington have won the Cornwall and Devon League and finished third and first in Western Counties West.
Next season they will be playing in South West One (W), their highest ever level.
Dawe won 14 major trophies with Bath and went on to play for Sale Sharks, Plymouth Albion and Launceston before taking up coaching. He has worked with the England squad and Eddie Jones.
Meanwhile, Wellington may still get a chance to play at Twickenham this year. “We’ve been told by the RFU we may still play our home semi-final against Surrey side Old Cranleighan Sports Club in the National RFU Intermediate Cup,” said coach Allyn Chetland. “The final is at Twickenham and the RFU will make a decision next month.”
Wellington played one of their best matches of the season to beat Swindon away in the South West Division of the competition.
Covid-19 brought a halt of all rugby in March and Wellington were declared winners of Western Counties West after the table was revised.
Next season they will play the likes of Bridgwater & Albion, a former National League side. “The lads are perfectly capable of stepping up,” added Chetland.
“They have been together for three or four seasons and the boys have grown up together.”
