WEST Somerset duo Philip Hobbs and Johnson White whose Sandhill Racing Stables sit alongside the A39 at Bilbrook celebrated their 50th winner of the season on Tuesday at Taunton after notching up five winners in the previous week.

Appropriately it was Don’t Wind Me Up who is owned by a syndicate run by Johnson White that numbers 90 locals, including several members of Bridgetown Cricket Club where he plays during the summer occasionally.

The six year old gelding has provided his syndicate with a lot of entertainment and prior to his win at Taunton where he was ridden by Sean Houlihan and went off at 15-2, he had come third in three out of his previous four races.

Before this on Friday the pair notched up a double, with Manuelito ridden by Micheal Nolan won at Newbury going off at 9-4 joint favourite while in West Wales Starzand (13-8 favourite) was winning at Ffos Las under Sean Houlihan.

On Sunday the yard enjoyed another success when Kayf Dancer won at Exeter ridden by stable jockey Nolan at 1-14 favourite which they followed up on Monday with Something Special who won at Wincanton under the same jockey at 4-5 favourite.

Members of the syndicate turned out in force to support Dont Wind Me Up and were not disappointed as he ran out the winner by one and a quarter lengths in front of a strong field which included entries from the Paul Nicholls, Nicky Henderson and Gary and Josh Moore stables.

Taunton’s meeting also featured a very popular winner for Jeremy Scott, his first since Cheltenham when Elusiveness ridden by Lorcan Williams won the mares handicap hurdle over almost three miles going off as 2-1 favourite.

The Brompton Regis trainer will be parading his Cheltenham winner Golden Ace at Taunton’s next meeting on Wednesday 9th April when the first of the action on The Roarsome Family Raceday is due to go to post at 2.15pm.

In addition to the horse racing there will be an interactive Dinosaur Roadshow, a Dino Trail, a Dino Race and Dino Face Painting.

Under 18s go free when accompanied by an adult, there is free parking and a free bus from Taunton Railway Station (platform 5) that leaves 90 minutes before the racing starts.

Racegoers can take advantage of the discounted prices by booking on-line before mid day on the day prior to racing by logging onto tauntonracecourse.co.uk
