WELLINGTON Under 16s travelled to Tor with just 16 players but still came away with a splendid 48-29 victory.

Last year Wellington started poorly, going 35 – 0 down before making a comeback and this year it looked like it may happen again.

Wellington started well but the first time Tor, who included players from Millfield School, got the ball they moved it wide to their pacy winger who raced 70 yards for a converted try. But this Wellington team have matured a lot since last season and they hit back almost immediately with a great finish by Harrison Sanchez-Lane who beat several players to score in the corner.

Then great hands by George Noble in his first game back at the club saw Bailey Lee race into the other corner to make it 7–10.

A barnstorming run by Will Barnes led to another try for Lee before Tor had a good period of pressure. They looked to have scored a certain try but a fantastic tackle by Jack Loren dislodged the ball to prevent the try.

Tor then did score a try to make it 12–15 before a simple, but perfectly executed move off a lineout saw Sanchez-Lane feed Jonah Richardson who raced in for a try, this time converted by Archie Austin.

Tor then scored again before captain Ashton Adams kicked a loose ball through to score under the posts, again converted by Austin to make it 17 – 29 at half-time.

The second half turned into the Sanchez-Lane show as he raced in for 3 more tries, two of which were converted by Austin. Tor scored two more, one with the last play of the game to make it a superb 29 – 48 win for the Wellington boys.

This was great game of rugby with lots of good attacking play by both sides. All of the Wellington boys played well especially Jack Besley at prop who made tackle after tackle chasing the Tor players down.

George Noble also played well in his first game back. Player of the week though went to Harrison Sanchez-Lane who was a threat every time he got the ball.

This coming weekend the side face Winscombe at home in a league game. This promises to be a cracker as the boys seek to beat last year’s Somerset Cup finalists. 11 am kick off on Sunday, the 10th, should you fancy supporting the boys.

Meanwhile, the Minis and Juniors started their winter training on the new 3G at Court Fields School. This is a fantastic facility which means the boys and girls can train all winter no matter what the weather. It will really help them with their fitness and ball skills as the trained coaches put them through their paces.
