JOE Wyllie, one of Wellington’s best prospects, if not the best, could be on the move.
Southern League neighbours Willand Rovers have put in seven days notice of approach for the 17-year-old striker, who is also due to have a trial with Plymouth Argyle later this week.
Wellington’s manager Tim Legg, who has arranged the trial for Wyllie, confirmed yesterday that Willand will be able to talk to the youngster later this week.
Wyllie broke into Wellington’s first team last season but his appearances this winter have been limited because of county and college commitments.
“Joe is a very good ball-carrier and reads the game very well, “ said Legg. “Obviously he needs time to mature but he is already a very effective player.
“I don’t know yet whether Willand want Joe to play in the Devon Bowl or to play Southern League football. He may still be in a position to play for us.”
Meanwhile Wellington, whose game at Bridport last night was postponed because of the bad weather, have an away game in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League this Saturday - against title-chasing Plymouth Parkway who are also through to the fifth round of the FA Vase.
Parkway began the season as championship favourites but Bradford Town and Exmouth, in particular, are out to stop them finishing top.
Wellington were unlucky to lose 1-0 away to Cadbury Heath over the weekend. They created a number of chances and enjoyed plenty of possession but were denied goals by an outstanding display by Heath goalkeeper and Man of the Match Ollie Jones.
Wellington Reserves, who drew 1-1 at home against highflyers Thorverton in the first division of the Devon and Exeter League on Saturday, are home to Lympstone while Hemyock, who play in Division Three, have no match.
Wellington A have a top of the table clash at home to Bridgwater Sports in Division Two of the Taunton Saturday League. Wellington have a one-point lead over their rivals, both sides having played the same number of games.
