WELLLINGTON Wildcats fought out a goalless away draw against a strong Portishead Ladies Reserves’ side on the home team’s new 3G pitch on a crisp afternoon.

The game was a showcase of defensive resilience, with both teams cancelling each other out in a match that lacked goals but not quality.

Having edged out Portishead 2-1 earlier in the season but suffering a heavy defeat in this fixture last year, Wildcats knew they faced a tough challenge. The match started at a high tempo, with both teams looking to gain an early advantage. Wildcats’ best chance of the first half fell to Leah Morrell, who found herself in space but was unable to convert.

As the game progressed, Portishead applied pressure, but Wildcats’ defense stood firm. Goalkeeper Bianca Hamlyn was in excellent form, making several crucial one-on-one saves to keep her team level. In front of her, the backline delivered a gritty and disciplined performance. Tenika Goss was immense at the heart of the defense, putting in strong tackles and clearances, while Emily Ayers, Robyn Stockman, and Grace Winter also played key roles in keeping Portishead at bay.

Despite some late surges forward, neither team could find a breakthrough, and the match ended in a well-earned point for both sides. Wildcats will take confidence from their defensive solidity as they prepare for their next challenge.
