WELLINGTON AFC Under 7s have displayed their talent by completing a clean sweep against their Ruishton counterparts in a series of football matches.

Wellington Lions were first in action and they gained a 4-1 win over Ruishton Ravens with Jack Bethell and Greyson Fisher both hitting the back of the net twice - to the delight of their coaches.

Next up were Wellington Tigers and they pulled off a 4-0 triumph over Ruishton Rhinos with Noah Marriott on target with a hat-trick, the other goal being scored by Elliott Turner.

The Lions were back in action and they chalked up a 2-1 success against Ruishton Rhinos with Greyson Fisher and Elliot Pownel scoring their goals.

Wellington Tigers completed a great day for the Under 7s with a 3-1 victory over Ruishton Ravens with Noah Marriott and Hugo Ridgeway scoring goals - and there was also an own goal.

Lead coach Rich Bethell said: “The boys are playing exceptionally well and are proving to be a real force against every opposition. The maturity that they are showing on the field is way beyond their age as they are doing everything us coaches are asking of them and we are very excited about the potential of this group of young footballers. “They achieved another brilliant clean sweep against a very good Ruishton squad and were an absolute joy to watch.”

The Wellington club, which is the envy of many in the county, fields more than 30 sides throughout the winter, and the Under 7s are just part of this huge set-up. The aim, of course, is for the club to produce its own talent but this has its difficulties with youngsters eventually going on to university and college, with some also moving away from the area.
