WELLINGTON AFC, , who complete their season in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League over Easter, are already planning for the 2025-26 campaign.

The Tangerines go into a holiday double header on the back of a four-match unbeaten run which has seen them climb away from the lower reaches of the table.

They travel to Buckland Athletic on Good Friday before their final game at home to Ivybridge Town on Easter Monday – both kicking off at 3pm.

Chairman Mike Hall said: “I think we can feel extremely pleased with the past season. It’s a tough division and yet we have held our own and recorded our highest points total for a number of years.

”The club are now facing a busy summer as they continue to improve their facilities at the Playing Field.”

Wellington had hoped to move to a new ground at Longforth Farm but the project was scuppered by spiralling costs. Mike added: “We decided instead to look at our current base and see what we could do to move things forward.”

“A new spectator stand, holding 100 people, has just been completed and helped the club meet their FA Step 5 grading, required to play at their current level.

“Next up is the installation of new corner-mounted floodlights in the close season. The LED lights will be more energy efficient and will avoid the club having to remove four of the existing pylons every summer to allow cricket to be played. The four pylons will be taken down for the final time ahead of the Reserves’ final home game of the season on Saturday.

“The club are also planning to erect a new pitch surround and renew the footpath of the clubhouse side of the pitch.

“It’s all coming together but not without a huge amount of work by our committee and other volunteer helpers. We owe them all a huge debt of thanks.“We must also thank the town council and cricket club for their support and co-operation.”

Meanwhile, there is a full programme of matches in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League on Good Friday with the leaders Portishead Town looking to maintain their title bid when they play at home to mid-table Brislington.

Portishead have a four-point lead over second-placed Clevedon Town who also have a home fixture - against Nailsea & Tickenham. Both Portishead and Clevedon have played the same number of games. Brixham AFC, who are in third place and trail Clevedon by six points, are without a match.

At the other end of the table, bottom side Welton Rovers, already relegated, will be chasing only their second win of the season when they play away to Shepton Mallet.
