WELLINGTON A crashed to a 7-0 away defeat against North Petherton in the Premier Division of the Taunton Saturday Football League.

In one of the few games played in the league, Wellington were 3-0 down at half time against a side lying second in the table.

Joint player-manager manager Warren Toft described the conditions as 'appalling' after heavy overnight rain.

However, he did not blame this for their big loss although he admitted: "We did make some mistakes because of the poor state of the pitch, but this was no excuse. We were terrible."

Wellington's Man of the Match was Connor Porter.

At the other end of the table leaders Taunton side Galmington maintained their 17-point lead over the field after beating Redgate 6-2 at home.

Petherton held on to second place following their victory over Wellington while Bridgwater Wolves are third after they beat Wembdon 5-1 at home.

Wellington, who won the first division title last season but are second from bottom in the Premier Division, have the chance of quick revenge over Petherton when they sides meet again in a league match at Court Fields School on Saturday, November 30 (2.15p.m.).
