WELLINGTON Town finished fourth in South Division of the Western Counties Floodlit Youth League despite calling off their last match of the season against Chard Town at the Playing Field.
Wellington's assistant manager Andy Govier explained: "The cricket club had kindly told us we could play at the Playing Field and the posts could stay up.
"But it rained heavily and it would have been unfair if we had played. The outfield would have been torn up.
"Chard were very good about it and offered to stage the game. But we worked out the cost of travelling and other expenses and it would have been well over £200.
"We wouldn't have finished any higher than fourth even if we had beaten Chard."
Govier added: "I think we can look back on our season and feel we more than held our own. In fact there was a chance at one stage that we might finish second.
"There's no doubt Yeovil Town deserved to win the league. They were a very good side indeed."
Govier and manager Joe Conway have now stepped down after running the side for the past two seasons. They are being succeeded by Wayne Oaten and Dave Jones who ran the club's successful Under 16 side this season.
