JAY Merrell and Phil Ellis from Wellington Bowling Club, took on Nick Best and Dan Winmill, two young men from Taunton BC, in the county pairs competition.

After some very good bowling by both pairs Jay and Phil emerged the winners by a comfortable 22 shots to 10.

They will play Matt Hamilton and Jonny Kingston from Ilminster Bowling Club next in the county quarter finals.

Should they win they will progress to the National Finals in Leamington Spar in August where they will come up against the best bowlers in the country.
