THE ladies of Wellington Bowling club met Bridgwater in the second round of the Southey Trophy on Sunday but, unfortunately, lost out to their rivals. The weather was variable with some wet spells. In the singles match Lynda Manning started well and was leading after 8 ends by 8 shots to 5. However her opponent upped her game and managed to surge ahead to finish the winner 21-13 after 21 ends. The pairs of Lisa Dart and Gill Groves were all square at 7 all after 7 ends. Bridgwater then gradually went ahead to finish winners 17-11 after the 18 ends. In the Triples match Liz May, Angie Moore and skip Janet Moore were also neck and neck with their opponents for the first few ends. Again Bridgwater started to pull ahead, especially in the last few ends, to win 17-9. The rinks team of June Anderson, Wendy Scott, Ann Cowling and skip Brenda Wilson were not going to let Bridgwater have it all their own way and led all the way after the 6th end taking a magnificent 6 shots on the final end to win 22-12. This meant that Bridgwater took 3 of the 4 matches and also overall number of shots and go into the next round.
