HERE'S some of the top rugby and football fixtures in Wellington and West Somerset to look out for this weekend:
FOOTBALL
WATCHET, who rued missed first half chances in Saturday’s 4-1 Uhlsport Premier Division defeat against high flying Mendip, will look to get back to winning ways at basement side Stockwood Green on Saturday.
The rescheduled game against Clutton, which was abandoned following an injury to their keeper, is pencilled in for the following Saturday but manager Avril Cooke is hoping her side will be awarded the three points with the outcome of the match under investigation.
She said: “We were the better team in the first half against Mendip, we had a goal disallowed and had two chances cleared off the line but once they made it 2-0 just after half time they managed the game.
“We’ve got six games in April so it’s going to be tough. Our next game in Bristol is against bottom of the league so it’s a game you’d hope to take points from but it’s going to be a tough April.”
Minehead are back in action on Saturday when they head to relegation-threatened Saltford.
Minehead are in 11th spot but can move up a goodfew places if they put a run together.

WELLINGTON missed out on an opportunity to get back to winning ways when their scheduled Toolstation Premier Division match at basement side Cadbury Heath on Wednesday evening was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
The Tangerines’ impressive unbeaten run has faltered recently with three defeats in quick succession but the mood in the camp remains positive according to joint manager Alex Pope.
Looking ahead to the home match against Mousehole on Saturday he added: “It’s going to be a tough game but we’ve done really well at home this year. The lads were disappointed that we lost that home run to Falmouth and they want to make the home pitch a fortress again.”
Wellington Reserves travel to Newtown Seconds in Division One of the Devon and Exeter League on Saturday (3pm), whilst Hemyock travel to Brodclyst.
Wellington A host Porlock on Saturday in the Premier Division of the Britannia Lanes Taunton Saturday League whilst Wellington Women host Berrow Ladies in the Somerset Women’s League Cup.
RUGBY
MINEHEAD Barbarians have announced some dates to save of cup and tour fixtures after their league campaign came to a disappointing end.
The Babas’ game at Imperial was cancelled as Minehead were unable to field a front row, resulting in Imperial getting all five points.
Jack Claydon’s charges, who finished seventh in the Counties Two Somerset, now head into an exciting set of fixtures to bring the curtain down on their season.
Up next on Saturday is a tour match against Alresford at the Tom Stewart Field (2.30pm).
The Babas then host Wellington Second XV in a Somerset Vase Cup Pool B match on Saturday, 8 April (3pm).
They then head to Wyvern the following Saturday, 15 April for their second Pool B outing before their final pool match at Cheddar Valley on Saturday, 22 April (both 3pm).
The proposed date for the Case Cup final is Tuesday, 25 April.
Two tour matches – both at home – see Minehead end the season in style, against Heathfield and Waldron on 6 May and Bideford on 13 May.
It’s the final Counties Three Somerset South league fixture for Wiveliscombe Second XV on Saturday as they head over to Chard.
Wiveliscombe Women welcome Plymstock to the Rec on Sunday.
Wiveliscombe First XV completed their league campaign with a 52-0 win against basement side Falmouth on Saturday and their next competitive action comes in the cup on 1st April.
After completing their Regional Two South West league campaign on a high with a 36-24 win against Sidmouth, Wellington Chiefs now turn their attention to the cup.
A well-deserved win for Wellington saw them finish a respectable fifth in the table, above the other Somerset teams in the league. The focus now is on Taunton Seconds XV’s visit to the Athletic Ground in the Somerset Cup, (ko 3pm).
Coach Allyn Chetland was pleased with his players after the victory over Sidmouth.
Chetland says he doesn’t know what to expect from the county cup. He said: “The cup competitions are a bit of an enigma this year – both the national and county cups.
“We’ve decided to jump into the county cup rather than the national competition because of the amount of potential travelling in the national competition.
“We’ll see what it brings. I think a few other clubs have realised and are starting to pull out of the national.”
Wellington Seconds are scheduled to play their last Counties Three Somerset South league match of the campaign when Castle Cary are the visitors on Saturday.
Welly were beaten 28-24 after a close affair against Bridgewater & Albion Seconds last time out and face a tough test against second placed Castle Cary who ran out 34-0 winners at Brook House Field back in October.
It’s the final Counties Three Somerset South league fixture for Wiveliscombe Second XV on Saturday as they head over to Chard.
Seventh place Wiveliscombe are a point ahead of Wellington in the table and Saturday will see who takes the bragging rights.
