SWIMMING pool volunteer David Stucki and his family are taking on a half-marathon trek around the coast of Dorset in September to raise funds for a cancer charity.
Mr Stucki, a New Zealander who now lives in Wiveliscombe, helps to run the town’s outdoor Wivey Pool.
He was diagnosed with cancer last year but is now on the mend and wants to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, which works with people living with cancer.
Mr Stucki and his wife Zoe and their three daughters Morgan, Eve, and Heidi will take part in the Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike half-marathon walk on September 8.
He said: “Having suffered some continuous discomfort in my stomach for some months and with perseverance with the NHS, in July, 2023, I was diagnosed with B-cell lymphoma, a type of blood cancer that had produced a cancerous lump in my stomach.
“Within a week of my diagnosis I had a phone call from a specialist Macmillan cancer nurse who was very professional, very helpful, and who made me feel very supported
“This support continued throughout my treatment.
“Now, thankfully, five months later, and after six rounds of difficult chemotherapy, I have been told that I am in remission.
“I cannot thank Macmillan enough for their help and kindness.
“This is my small way of giving back to them.
“If you are able to donate anything, however small, I would be grateful.
“All donations will go directly to Macmillan.”
