TWO Wellington sisters have set up a shop to raise money for important causes in the town centre for the fourth year running.

Sisters Linda Bennett and Susan Haddow have returned to Wellington’s Pop-Up Shop, this time to fund-riase for Breast Cancer Research and to support Ukraine.

The pair hope to raise more than their previous record of £2,400 over the next week, to support their two chosen charities.

Linda said: “You just can’t imagine what it must be like to be in the shoes of those people in Ukraine, and so many people have Breast Cancer, so if there’s anything we can do to help, then that’s great.”

Every year, the sisters bring their homemade knitting and gift baskets to the Fore Street Pop-Up Shop – an initiative established by Wellington Town Council – to raise funds for a new cause.

This year, the two have chosen to support Breast Cancer Research because Susan had previously tackled the disease, and Linda now has it herself. As for supporting Ukraine, Linda says the war there should never have started.

Since they began fundraising, the sisters have raised more than £10,000 and made plenty of new friends.

Linda said: “We’ve met so many wonderful people and made so many new friends.

“People have come to donate all sorts, we even have a drum kit. There isn’t anything we don’t sell.”

Susan added: “Really, we just want to give something back. We’ve been brought up this way, we’ve always done it.”

Visitors have the option of purchasing one of the many handmade or donated items to take home for themselves, or of paying it forward and leaving the item with Linda and Susan for them to donate to those in Ukraine.

The sisters will be in Wellington’s Pop-Up Shop between 9am and 4am until Friday, April 19.
