WELLINGTON MP Gideon Amos has written to schools across the community encouraging them to apply for grants towards running breakfast clubs.

The Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Network reaches more than 6,000 schools in the UK and, since 1998, the company has provided more than a whopping £5.75 million in support.

The scheme offers schools the opportunity to apply for a grant of £1,000 to help fund a Breakfast Club and the programme is focused on funding those most in need.

Mr Amos, who was elected Taunton and Wellington MP in July, said: “Liberal Democrat Ministers introduced free school meals for all infants in 2013 – building on the 1906 Liberal Government’s first introduction of free school meals back in 1906.

“I strongly support our policy to now widen access to free school meals, but with ever increasing concerns about school funding challenges.

“Breakfast in clubs funded by outside bodies can, of course, be really nourishing, ensuring children have a warm place to be and don’t go hungry at the start of their day.

“Given the ongoing cost of living crisis, Kellogg’s deserves recognition for these grants which I hope will provide relief to both concerned parents and schools.

“I hope this opportunity is a useful one for any eligible school in Taunton and Wellington to take up.”
