Local hairdresser Amy Alderman has had a big brush with success, after winning a trio of awards.
Amy, 35, lives in the Wellsley Park area of Wellington and runs her business from home. Having been in the hairdressing business since she was 14, Amy was encouraged by a friend and fellow hairdresser to enter the British Hair and Beauty Awards. And she came away with a Bronze in the Hair Stylist of the Year category, Silver for new business and a Gold award for Creative Artist of the Year.
“I was aiming just for recognition for new business as setting up just before Covid hit, it had a massive impact financially and mentally, so to have been awarded with second out of 23 new businesses, that made my day,” Amy said.
Winning the award has given Amy a massive confidence boost. She said: “To get Gold for creative artist well that has made my year. My passion is not just colouring (although I do love it very much) but creating everyday hairstyles with cuts and styling to complement the colours as well.”
After the lockdowns hairdressers have endured during the pandemic, Amy says ‘she’s back and she’s fighting’, and credits her close family and friends for supporting her and helping her get through the hard times.
Amy said her recognition in the Hair Stylist of the Year category, “shows that all my hard work for keeping up with the ever changing trends, keeping myself motivated with ongoing education has really been recognised.”
Amy is now thinking to the future and wants to expand her business and also enter different awards next year.
“Onto the next chapter. Will I enter next year? Quite possibly we will see!” Amy exclaimed.
