The doors are set to open on the new, larger, purpose-built Oake Village Shop and Post Office.

Keys to the store were handed over this week and it is now being fitted out ready for opening on Thursday (August 20).

The shop is an extension to the village hall, just down the road from the existing premises in Saxon Close.

The store, which has remained open throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, uses local suppliers wherever possible.

Diane Charlton, secretary of the community benefit society which runs the shop, said: “We have many people to thank for our success with the new build – the committee for their determination and enthusiasm; volunteers and the local community for their support and belief in the project; the National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund and the Somerset Community Foundation for their support and cash; Eleven 10 Architecture for designing a stunning building in keeping with the village hall; and Blue Wave Construction for such a good job of the building work.”

The shop will remain open in its present location until next Thursday with slightly changed opening hours.
