STUDENTS from Court Fields School in Wellington recently completed their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Expedition on Exmoor - with two days full of challenges, teamwork, and personal growth.
The expedition, a core part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, encourages young people to step out of their comfort zones by undertaking an overnight journey with little more than essential supplies, a map, and a positive attitude.
The group of Year 11 students, gathered early on day one, equipped with backpacks, tents, and all the gear needed for a self-sufficient expedition.
They received a final briefing from their instructor before setting off using their planned plotted routes. The two-day trek would take them through varied terrain, testing their navigation skills, stamina, and teamwork along the way.
The teams checked in at designated checkpoints along the route, marking their progress and giving them a sense of accomplishment and relief with each step.
The end of day one involved students pitching their tents and cooking meals on portable stoves.
Day two started with breakfast before packing everything up ready to do the final leg of their journey. By mid-afternoon, they had completed their expedition route and were welcomed with cheers from staff for their accomplishment.
A representative of Court Fields School said: “Congratulations to the Duke of Edinbugh participants for their outstanding effort and success on this adventure.
“They worked tirelessly as a team - helping everyone, not just their own team, to succeed.
“Thanks also to the staff who volunteered their time to enable the expedition to take place.”
