COUNCILLORS have agreed that work needs to be carried out to improve safety at a play area in Wellington.
Safety surfacing at Burchills Hill play area has fallen into disrepair and become a trip hazard – meaning that play equipment is out of bounds.
Wellington Town Council’s environment committee heard from open spaces manager Darren Hill on September 18 who said that the surfacing could be repaired.
“If we could fix this repair I’d say that the surfacing has got another 20 years’ of life in it,” he said.
“The play equipment can no longer safely be used because of the surface – it has become a trip hazard,” said Mr Hill in a council report.
The work could cost around £5,000 and councillors agreed that the matter go to full council on October 7 with a recommendation that town clerk Dave Farrow is given the go-ahead to get the work done.
