WORK on a new £1.1 million 3G sports pitch for Wellington is nearing completion at Court Fields School.
The all-weather artificial surface in the school sports field next to Wellington Recreation Ground will be floodlit and will be available for community use all year round.
It is expected to be ready for use when pupils returns for the new academic year in the first week of September.
Headteacher Polly Matthews said: “This is a fantastic facility for the school and the wider community.”
The project has been funded with a £730,000 grant from the Premier League, The Football Association, and the Government’s Football Foundation.
Wellington Town Council also backed it with a £150,000 contribution, and Somerset Council and Bishop Fox’s Educational Foundation added to the school’s own capital input.
Planning permission was given last December with a condition the facility could only be used between 7 am and 10 pm daily.
