A CCTV image has been released by police who have appealed for public help to identify a man in connection with an alleged homophobic hate crime in Wellington.
Officers believe the person pictured may have information which could aid their inquiries into the incident, which happened on Saturday, July 6.
The man is described as white, about 6 ft 1 in tall, in his late 20s, with short, dark hair, and stubble.
The incident happened at about 1.10 am in the beer garden of a public house in Fore Street.
An unknown suspect made homophobic comments toward the victim, who was also in their 20s, before punching him in the face.
The victim sought medical attention for facial bruising and swelling and police said they were now recovering at home.
A spokesperson said: “If you have any information or recognise the person pictured, please call 101 and quote reference 5224175238.”
