A WELLINGTON vet is pioneering a revolutionary treatment for cancer in dogs that could alleviate the disease in humans.

The treatment is already providing a lifeline for Brynley, a cancer-suffering German shepherd dog owned by Mark Formosa, the defeated Taunton Deane Tory candidate in last year's Parliamentary election.

Eventually, it is hoped the treatment Brynley is receiving from veterinary specialist Tom Cave will lead to a cure for melanomas in humans, responsible for three-quarters of all skin cancer deaths.

Mr Cave of Cave Veterinary Specialists, West Buckland, is one of only two UK veterinary specialists allowed to trial the drug, which is marketed under the name Oncept.
