A LOCAL care home for adults has won the award for Care Home of the Year at the South West Care Awards.
The team at Drakes Place, the Voyage Care residential home on Taunton Road, attended the awards at Sandy Park on October 18, to take home the title of Care Home of the Year.
Established almost forty years ago, Drakes Place supports a number of adults with learning disabilities and associated health needs, many of whom have lived at the home since its opening.
In recognition of their hard work supporting their residents, the Wellington care home has been named Care Home of the Year and received special commendations for ‘Registered Manager of the Year’ and ‘Care Team of the Year’ at the awards ceremony this month.
Wayne Fisher, registered manager, said: “To say we were over the moon with these nominations would be an understatement.”
“The evening was lovely; we had a beautiful meal followed by lively entertainment and then the awards.
“The first award to be announced was Care Home of the year and the shortlist consisted of five homes, and we were announced as the winner!”
“To be recognised for the hard work the team have put in to make such a wonderful home where everyone is treated as individuals and put at the centre of everything we do is such an honour.
“The team consistently seeks new ways to enhance the well-being of our residents, whether through implementing advanced therapeutic techniques, adopting new ways to use technology, or developing creative programs that promote physical and mental health.
“We truly believe that what we do is such an honour and a huge privilege.”
Elisha Lang, deputy manager, said: “Its an absolute honour to receive this award, it recognises the hard work and dedication our team put in 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
“It gives us a sense in accomplishment and pushes us to continue delivering such a high standard of care and support to wonderful residents.
“I am very proud all the staff at Drakes Place.”
