TORRENTIAL rain hit the annual prom night for Court Fields School, Wellington, on Friday (July 5).

But it did not stop the school’s year 11 pupils enjoying themselves at the ball, which was held for the first time in the Somerset County Cricket Club, Taunton.

Court Fields headteacher Polly Matthews bought a couple dozen umbrellas to help keep the rain off the students’ suits and ball gowns as they stood outside on the red carpet for photocalls.

In keeping with tradition, the students arrived in a variety of modes of transport ranging from classic and sports cars to motorcycles and tractors and even a funfair lorry.

One of the more unusual arrivals was pulled off by a student who was accompanied by a prize-winning sheep.
