WELLINGTON Hospital’s League of Friends is hard at work preparing for their annual fundraising fete.
Scheduled for June, in Wellington Scout Hall, the group’s trustees are inviting local businesses to donate prizes for the event’s ‘grand raffle.’
Money raised at the event will go toward supporting a number of services offered by the hospital including its midwifery and physiotherapy departments.
In a statement a spokesperson for the group said: “Money raised by the League is used to support these services - like the extra equipment for physio to allow even more patients to be seen or a specialist couch to make it possible for the post menopausal bleed clinic to open.
“We have also helped to pay toward alterations to the hospital to allow for the audiology team to move in and run clinics. These are just a few of things we have been able to provide, and all thanks to your support.”
The event promises a cake stall, refreshments, ‘bric-à-brac’ flowers, puzzles and more.
Last year’s cream tea event, which replaced the annual fete, raised £494 on the day.
In recent times the league has contributed more than £2,000 worth of equipment to the physio department, thousands toward the conversion of bathrooms into consulting rooms with hearing booths, and £1,372 to help fund bariatric chairs for the waiting room.
The group said their contributions would result in lower wait times for some appointments, as well as expanding the range of services offered to include hearing tests while relieving pressure on services at Musgrove.
