ACCLAIMED British actor James Purefoy, best known for his captivating performances in Rome, The Following, and Fisherman’s Friends, has officially been named Patron of the Wellington Film Festival.
The announcement marks a significant milestone for the festival – which was established in 2022 - as it continues to grow in prominence.
James has worked extensively in theatre and television as well as film. Throughout his career he has played a wide range of characters, always choosing to play parts that juxtapose strongly with the one he has just completed.
Born in Taunton and brought up in Yeovil and Martock, James says he is proud of his heritage and has, where possible, favoured the local accent when playing roles.
His new role as festival Patron will involve a special Q&A and screening as part of this year’s festival, with details to be announced.
James said: “I am honoured to be joining the Wellington Film Festival as its Patron.
“I look forward to supporting the incredible work of those involved in bringing a varied and entertaining film programme to the people of Wellington.”
Festival chairman Sean Pringle-Kosikowsky said: “James’ remarkable career and dedication to his craft make him an inspiring figure for filmmakers and audiences alike.
“His support will be invaluable as we continue to elevate the festival’s profile."
Wellington Film Festival was initiated by the Wellington Town Council Working Group and funded by Wellington Town Council, with delivery co-ordinated by local charity Somerset Film.
This year the festival takes place from October 3-5, with a line-up of films, Director Q&A’s, a short film making competition, outdoor projections, and special events to be announced in the coming months.
