WELLINGTON will mark 80 years since the D-Day landings - which signalled the end of the Second World War - with a series of events this summer.
A number of commemorative events will be held in the week surrounding the D-Day anniversary (Thursday, June 6), the start of which will be marked by a town centre street fair from 10am until 4pm on Saturday, June 1.
This year’s annual street fair will have a 1940’s theme and will boast 80 stalls from local crafters, traders, charities, and community groups.
It will also boast a packed schedule of entertainment on stage including the swing/jazz group The Liberty Sisters who are booked to perform some classic 1940’s tunes.
Special guests General Motors and Private Parts will also patrol the fair in their miniature tank, armed with a confetti cannon.
The Friends of Wellington Park’s weekly summer programme of Music in the Park will launch on Sunday, June 2, with Miss Ivy Belle and Rod Thomas. Swing classics are promised and dancing will be encouraged.
Applications for the street fair are still being accepted and information and forms are available at https://www.wellingtontowncouncil.co.uk/streetfair2024/. People can direct any questions to [email protected]
