YOUNG filmmakers in Wellington will have their work showcased at this year's Wellington Film Festival.
A total of nine groups of eager filmmakers collaborated in the festival's 48-hour film challenge for young people, and nine films were made over a two-day period during the Easter holidays.
The teams are now up for a range of awards and all films will be shown in St John’s Church on Saturday (April 20) lunchtime.
Wellington Film Festival chairman, Cllr Keith Wheatley, said: “It looks like being an even bigger success than the debut festival in 2022. We already have several sold-out shows and many of the others are filling up fast.”
This year marks the second year the festival has been running, and it brings a variety of films and supporting events to various venues across Wellington. This year's programme includes a late-night showing of disco classic Saturday Night Fever and a movie pub quiz hosted by BBC Somerset presenter Simon Parkin.
Last year's success of a combination of ET with a costumed Star Wars picnic in the town park has prompted festival organisers to repeat the exercise with a showing of Jurassic Park at the Wellesley. This will be followed by a full-on dinosaur session around the bandstand where Wellington Silver Band will be playing movie themes.
Cllr Wheatley said: “It’s an incredibly broad programme and we hope everybody in the town will find at least one thing they want to come along and watch.”
“And once again we thank Wellington Town Council and Somerset Council for the generous financial support that makes the festival possible.”
Wellington Film Festival runs from Friday, April 19.
Bookings can be made at www.wellingtonfilmfestival.org.uk or from the team in the pop up shop, Forest Street, each day until Saturday.
