Ferne Animal Sanctuary is a non-government funded charity which has a retail shop on Wellington’s High Street and seven other outlets throughout Somerset, Devon and Dorset.
Relying wholly on fundraising through grants and donations, the sanctuary provides refuge and rehabilitation for more than 300 animals on its 72-acre site, welcoming thousands of leisure visitors every year who visit the working sanctuary for a fun day out or a learning experience.
Founded at the beginning of the Second World War by the late Nina, Duchess of Hamilton and Brandon, Ferne Animal Sanctuary provided temporary refuge for animals belonging to service men and women.
At the end of the war many owners failed to return for their pets and so Ferne Animal Sanctuary began. And 85 years later, the sanctuary is still acting as a refuge for hundreds of animals from across the county and beyond.
Families can join Ferne Animal Sanctuary for their Halloween celebration with reduced entry fees for just £5 per adult and £1 per child.
When booking visits, guests can purchase general admission tickets, or on selective dates throughout the year ticket holders can purchase dedicated behind-the-scenes guided tours with the animal care team.
