FIREFIGHTERS are often rescuing cats from trees, adults from swings, but rarely dogs from roofs.

But that was the scene in Wellington when a dog was discovered on the roof of a tiled porch at its home in Buckwell on Thursday, July 4.

After apparently climbing out of an open window upstairs, it became stuck, but the alarm was soon raised.

Wellington Town Council called the local fire crew to help rescue the dog, while also posting a plea on social media for its owners to return home.

The message read: “Does anyone know the owner of this dog in Buckwell? Please could the owner come home and rescue the dog.”

The fire service were quick to respond, and arrived to help the dog down safely, which the owners were extremely grateful for.

Welington Fire Station posted on its Facebook page: “One pump from Wellington attended to assist our four-legged friend. The fire brigade have arrived to help this guy down.”

The dog was brought to safety many social media users congratulated the fire services for their quick response.

One person said: “You (have) all done a brilliant job keeping the dog calm.”
