STAFF in a Wellington school have been helping Muslim students to celebrate Ramadan.
Headteacher Polly Matthews said she was ‘proud’ of the celebration in Court Fields School, where about nine per cent of students do not have English as their first language.
Mrs Matthews said: “Many students will encounter the spiritual journey for the first time.
“It is a time of spiritual contemplation, self-discipline, and considering those who have less.
“Our Muslim students will not be eating or drinking during daylight hours, which is a great challenge, especially when they are expected to continue with everyday life.
“Time in reflection and thinking about the bigger picture in life is maybe something we could all consider from time to time.”
